CG (Corporate Governance) Structure |
After its restructuring efforts, the Company has expanded its business and recruited more employees. Every batch of the employees is taught to embrace the corporate culture of “sustainably developing business with the environment and the society”. Every batch is told to find the balance between “business profits” and “social/environment values”. To nurture such corporate culture, the Company has developed a work system that allows the employees to work while learning how to support themselves, their colleagues, their community and the society. The employees are encouraged to become volunteers at activities held by the Company. The Company’s executives at all levels have led the employees by example.
Work Culture for Employees: Be Virtuous, Knowledgeable and Contributive to the Society
The Company has required its employees to “be virtuous, knowledgeable and contributive to the society”. The requirements rank among recruitment criteria. “To be virtuous” is to have honesty. “To be knowledgeable” is to have knowledge and abilities for work efficiency. “To be contributive to the society” is to use one’s knowledge and abilities for other people.
At the Company, the employees have work assignments plus a forum to do various types of activities. The very first activity that the employees can join is the “Free Lunch Project”. The Company has called on the employees to donate money for buying lunch for students at neighboring schools. After specifying an amount they want to donate every month, the donations can be deducted from the employees’ salary automatically.
“Bangchak Volunteers” for the Society To create better understanding in the Company’s corporate culture, the Company has encouraged its employees to become Bangchak volunteers. This means in addition to general work duties, the employees will also do various activities with the Company as volunteers.
The Company has promoted volunteerism because by being volunteers, the employees will learn about altruism and “public-spiritedness”. Aside, volunteer sessions also effectively bring the employees from various units together giving them opportunities to make friends, share their ideas and experiences, learn about teamwork and do something good for the society and be proud together. Currently, the Company has over 700 employees.
The volunteer work at the Company can be categorized into three groups:
- Volunteer work for the Company: Volunteers in this group save energy, serve as deejay for in-house radio programs, and conduct activities to promote “good corporate governance”.
- Volunteer work for neighboring communities: The Company, as a big organization and a part of the local communities, has promoted the mutual co-existence. During their free time, the Company’s volunteers in this group jointly arrange activities for local youths, families and public service. There are “Free Lunch Project”, “Free Tutorial Project”, “Science and Oil Fun with Bangchak Project” and “Futsal Tournaments for Scholarships Project”. Aside, the Company has organized Children’s Day activities for neighboring communities for more than 10 consecutive years already.
- Volunteer work for the society: The Bangchak’s Bird-Watching Project first began with some employees getting together to train themselves as bird-watching guides. Then, they have arranged “bird-watching camps” to inculcate love for nature among participating youths and strengthen family ties of the participants.
Every year, bird-watching guides from the Company have joined the Bird Conservation Society of Thailand’s Asia Midwinter Waterbird Census activities in various places such as Doi Inthanon. Furthermore, the Company’s bird-watching guides have also organized bird-watching trips for interested agencies and clubs.
The Company’s employees have carried out other public work too. In post-tsunami period, they were actively involved in relief operations including school repairs in disaster-hit areas.

“Brother Bio – Sister Gassy” Exhibition Board and Emcee Contest Project |
For the development of learning materials about gasohol and biodiesel for youths across the country
Today, the need for renewable energy has been on the rise because oil price has continued to soar higher and higher. Knowledge about or understanding in gasohol and biodiesel are thus necessary not just for adult motorists, but also for children who are going to become main energy consumers in the future.
In a bid to promote the better understanding in gasohol and biodiesel that come from His Majesty the King’s initiatives, the Company has arranged the “Brother Bio – Sister Gassy Brothers” Exhibition Board and Emcee Contest Project. The emcee part is intended to encourage children’s self-expression.
The exhibition-board contest is novel. The Company has decided to use this form of contest because exhibition boards are effective teaching tools with concise content and many interesting elements for learning environment.
By involving students and teachers in the project, the exhibition boards can be developed as even more effective tools. Children at schools across the country, meanwhile, have opportunities to learn about gasohol and biodiesel in fun, interesting and useful ways.
Contest Format:The project requires participating schools to create exhibition boards about biodiesel and gasohol, and to allow all students to take a look at the boards. To ensure that everyone gets the key information, the contest requires outstanding emcees for the exhibition boards too.
The project attracts more than 600 schools. Signing books show more than 1,200,000 students have already looked at the project’s exhibition boards. Another piece of welcome news is that schools from the southernmost provinces of Yala and Narathiwat have joined the project too. With their creativity, their exhibition boards have won the prizes at regional level.
Prizes for the Contest: Winners from the regional level get prizes and a chance to join the “Bangchak Youth Club”. Through the club, they are eligible to participate in various activities including a visit to His Majesty’s experimental projects at the Suan Chitralada Villa, the birthplace of gasohol and biodiesel in Thailand. Out of concern for his subjects, His Majesty has tried to find renewable energy for them since more than 20 years ago. Thanks to His Majesty’s initiatives, the energy problems are not very severe these days. All visitors to his experimental projects are moved, and they intended to respond to His Majesty’s initiatives.
Under the project, students and teachers have also received training on how to hold exhibitions and serve professionally as emcees from experts, news announcers, actors and actresses.
Exhibitions:The project has found that teachers and students now have good knowledge and great abilities for holding exhibitions with modern technology and interesting multimedia. Each participating school has come up with high-quality exhibition boards.
In all, the project has offered not just a novel contest for children but also innovative media to communicate about renewable energy. Currently, the project means there are 600 exhibition boards between June and July across the country. No other subject has such a nationwide exhibition before. |
