Bangchak Group Showcases Thailand's SAF Leadership at ASAFA IPS 2026

Bangchak Group, Thailand's first producer of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) using HEFA-SPK technology, showcased Thailand's capabilities to over 160 representatives from the global aviation and energy industries, as well as related organizations, at the 2nd Innovation & Policy Summit (IPS) Thailand 2026, hosted by the Asian Sustainable Aviation Fuel Association (ASAFA) from 24–26 June 2026 in Bangkok. Bangchak welcomed international delegates to its Phra Khanong Refinery, shared its experience through conference presentations, participated in the exhibition, and supported the conference as a carbon neutral Event.

On 24 June, Bangchak Group executives and employees, led by Mrs. Gloyta Nathalang, Senior Executive Vice President, Sustainability Management and Corporate Communications, Bangchak Corporation Public Company Limited, and Mr. Dechapol Lertsuwanroj, Chief Executive Officer of BBGI Public Company Limited, welcomed delegates from around the world to visit the Bangchak Phra Khanong Refinery and Thailand's first commercial HEFA-SPK SAF production facility. Participants received an overview of Thailand's SAF value chain, covering sustainable feedstock sourcing, production, certification, and deployment in the aviation sector. Bangchak executives and employees, as ASAFA members, also participated in ASAFA Members' Day at Carlton Hotel Bangkok Sukhumvit, where association members, industry participants, and international partners exchanged views on the future development of the SAF industry, regional collaboration, and market expansion across Asia and beyond.

On 25–26 June, Bangchak executives shared their experience and perspectives at IPS 2026 on developing Thailand's SAF ecosystem, building sustainable supply chains, the private sector's role in advancing the energy transition, and regional collaboration to accelerate SAF adoption.

On 25 June, Air Chief Marshal Manat Chavanaprayoon, Director General of the Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand (CAAT), delivered a presentation entitled "SAF Targets, Airport Readiness, and What Airlines Need to Plan For," outlining Thailand's direction for SAF adoption and the aviation sector's readiness. This was followed by a keynote presentation by Mrs. Gloyta Nathalang, Senior Executive Vice President, Sustainability Management and Corporate Communications, Bangchak Corporation Plc., entitled "Building a SAF Ecosystem for Thailand: From Molecules to Attributes: Unlocking the Power of the Bioeconomy." She highlighted Thailand's biofuel journey, which began with the vision of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej the Great on energy security and the sustainable use of the nation's resources, and has evolved over more than two decades into a robust biofuel industry. She also shared Bangchak Group's journey from a leader in renewable energy to a leader in future energy through Thailand's first commercial HEFA-SPK SAF production facility, the development of sustainable feedstock initiatives through the Fry to Fly and Farm to Fly programs, and the concept of moving beyond "Molecules" to "Attributes" by creating additional value through sustainability characteristics using the Book & Claim mechanism to support SAF market expansion and the future growth of the bioeconomy.

On 26 June, Mrs. Ongorn Pleanrungsi, Executive Vice President, Refinery and Marketing Business Group, Bangchak Corporation Plc., presented "Bangchak's HEFA Plant and Thailand's First Commercial SAF Supply Chain." She shared Bangchak's experience in developing Thailand's first commercial HEFA-SPK SAF production facility, with a production capacity of approximately one million liters per day, or 7,000 barrels per day. She also outlined the development of a fully integrated commercial SAF supply chain, from feedstock collection through the Fry to Fly program, production, ASTM D7566 certification, sustainability certifications including ISCC EU, ISCC PLUS, and CORSIA, traceability systems, transportation through fuel storage and pipeline infrastructure, airport and airline integration, and expansion into both domestic and international markets, demonstrating Thailand's readiness to become a competitive SAF producer and supplier for the global market.

Throughout the conference, Bangchak Group presented the exhibition "Thailand's First Commercial HEFA-SPK SAF Producer: Building Thailand's SAF Ecosystem," highlighting Thailand's pioneering SAF development, including the country's first commercial HEFA-SPK SAF production facility, the establishment of an integrated sustainable aviation fuel supply chain, and feedstock ecosystem development through the Fry to Fly initiative, which promotes the collection of used cooking oil for conversion into SAF, and the Farm to Fly initiative, which explores and develops future energy crops to strengthen long-term feedstock security. Bangchak also showcased Carbon Markets Club (CMC), presenting the role of carbon markets in supporting greenhouse gas management and demonstrating how market mechanisms can complement the bioeconomy to promote sustainable economic growth.

In addition, Bangchak Group supported IPS 2026 as a carbon neutral Event by offsetting greenhouse gas emissions associated with the conference through the retirement of carbon credits from CMC, reinforcing its commitment to a low-carbon society and the practical advancement of the energy transition.
