Bangchak and Mitico International Complete Carbon Capture Demonstration at Bangchak Phra Khanong Refinery

Bangchak Corporation Public Company Limited and Mitico International Sàrl have successfully completed a carbon capture demonstration project at the Bangchak Phra Khanong Refinery.

Mitico is a US-based climate technology company specializing in carbon capture solutions for industrial emission sources. Its technology, originally developed at the California Institute of Technology (Caltech), uses a proprietary solid sorbent to capture CO2 from post-combustion emissions. The system is designed to be cost-effective, scalable and integrated into existing industrial facilities without major modifications to their operations.

The project evaluated Mitico’s technology under actual refinery operating conditions and explored how it could be integrated into existing industrial processes. The demonstration provided valuable operational insights into the technology’s performance and potential application, supporting further assessment of carbon capture as an option for reducing emissions from industrial operations that are difficult to decarbonize through conventional approaches.

“Carbon capture is an important technology option for reducing emissions from industrial operations that are difficult to decarbonize through conventional approaches alone,” said Mr. Bundit Hansapaiboon, President, Refinery and Marketing Business Group, Bangchak Corporation Plc. “This demonstration with Mitico has enabled us to evaluate the technology under actual refinery operating conditions and gain valuable insights into its potential application. The project reflects our shared commitment to exploring practical and scalable solutions that can contribute to industrial decarbonization while supporting Bangchak Group's commitment to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.”

“We are incredibly grateful to the Bangchak team for their partnership, openness, and commitment throughout this project,” said Ron Rogers, Président-directeur général at Mitico International Sàrl. “This demonstration allowed us to validate key aspects of our technology in a real-world environment and strengthened our confidence that affordable carbon capture can play a meaningful role in industrial decarbonization. We see significant opportunities ahead, both in Thailand and across Southeast Asia.”

The demonstration also showed the potential for carbon capture technology to support emissions reduction without requiring major changes to existing industrial infrastructure. Bangchak and Mitico will continue to assess the knowledge gained from the project and explore opportunities for further collaboration and potential applications in other areas of Bangchak Group’s operations.
