Bangchak Sponsors Fuel Cash Cards for the Prevention of Forest Fires in Mae Ping National Park to Reduce Carbon Emissions into the Atmosphere

Gloyta Nathalang, Executive Vice President, Corporate Branding, Communication, and Sustainability Activation, Bangchak Corporation Public Company Limited, presented Bangchak fuel cash cards to Dr. Jain Charnnarong, Chairman of Ananda Mahidol Foundation Scholarship Alumni Club, to be forwarded to Monya Nakpon, Head of Mae Ping National Park, Li District Lumphun, as part the initiative to enhance the water patrol capacity of Mae Ping National Park officials to combat forest fires within the National Park.

The Bangchak Fuel Cash Cards will be used to procure fuel for various missions, such as to power leaf blowers to put out fires, patrol motorcycles, trucks and vehicles to monitor fires, and for boats used in water patrol, increasing the capacity to combat forest fires in Mae Ping National Park, Omkoi Wildlife Sanctuary, Chiang Mai province, and Mae Tuen Wildlife Sanctuary, Tak province, which are areas that experience the highest number of repeated forest fires in the country, averaging more than 580,000 rai annually. Nevertheless, through years of cooperation, Mae Ping National Park has developed stringent response protocols emphasizing the engagement of local communities, whereby in 2022, it was able to reduce affected areas to less than 1,000 rai, but additional patrol measures must be implemented to combat poaching and other longstanding illegal activities that are the causes of PM 2.5.

Reducing forest fires not only helps to resolve the PM 2.5 problem, but also mitigates carbon dioxide emissions into the atmosphere, as well as the preserving the natural carbon sequestration of forests.
