“Fun Reading, Writing & Learning Project” by Bangchak and Bai Mai Pan Suk Foundation Enters Final Round of S&P Global Platts Global Energy Awards 2020

For three consecutive years now, Bangchak has been a finalist for these prestigious accolades

The “Fun Reading, Writing & Learning Project” by Bangchak and Bai Mai Pan Suk Foundation has been nominated to the final round of S&P Global Platts Global Energy Awards this year. The awards are handed out by S&P Global Platts, an international provider of energy and petrochemical information, in an annual event to exemplary organizations that demonstrate leading innovations and prominent profile. In 2020, more than 300 organizations from nearly 40 nations across the world are nominated for S&P Global Platts Global Energy Awards. For three consecutive years now, Bangchak has entered the final round of the contest for these international awards. The firm has been a candidate in the same category for three years in a row too. In 2018, Bangchak’s Service Stations by Agricultural Cooperatives Project emerged as a finalist while the firm’s Project to Buy Used Cooking Oil for Biodiesel Production was a finalist a year later.

This year, the finalist from Bangchak is the ““Fun Reading, Writing & Learning Project”. Competing in the Corporate Social Responsibility Award – Targeted category, the project initially started off under the name of “It’s So Easy to Read & Write” because Bangchak recognized the importance of tackling illiteracy among youth and intended to provide a solution. To launch the initiative, Bangchak collaborated with the Bai Mai Pan Suk Foundation and Tungsak Asome Learning Center’s academics/poets Asst. Prof. Siwakarn Patoommasoot and Ajarn Naiduangta Patoommasoot. This institute is known for having designed an efficient program to solve students’ illiteracy in a systematic manner with tangible positive results. The effectiveness of the program has been time-tested among students both in Bangkok and in provinces for years.

In 2003, Bangchak launched the “It’s So Easy to Read & Write Project” to schools in its refinery’s neighborhood. In the following years, the project had expanded to cover schools around the facilities of Bangchak Group in many provinces including Ayutthaya and Chachoengsao.

In 2017, Bangchak set up the “Ban Mai Pan Suk Foundation” to specifically implement educational missions, extend educational support to wider areas, and seek out partners. Via the foundation, the project has extended to Pracharath schools of Connext ED.

In 2020, the project has transformed into the “Fun Reading, Writing & Learning Project”. Under this project, an emphasis is placed on the use of preventive measures among Prathom 1 students, teacher training, and online consultancy. This project, as a result, can cover the whole Thailand.

At present, the project has already covered more than 7,000 students at 76 schools in 26 provinces across the country. Not only that this initiative addresses Thai children’s illiteracy, but it also supports the United Nation Sustainable Development Goal:4 on inclusive and quality education for all.

S&P Global Platts Global Energy Awards began in 1999. Dubbed the Oscars of the energy industry, these awards are available in 21 categories. Winners of the 2020 Platts Global Energy Awards will be announced at a virtual celebration on December 10.
