On 18 - 19 July 2023, the Marine Department, Ministry of Transport, organized the 12th Thailand Oil and Chemical Spill Response Exercise (TOC-EX12) presided by Puripat Teerakulpisut, Deputy Director-General of the Marine Department for safety, along with Thamarat Paryoonsuk, Senior Executive Vice President, Refinery Business Group, as a member of the Board of Trustees of the Oil Industry Environmental Safety Group Association (IESG), and Kanthamat Kritayanukul, Executive Vice President, Refinery and Logistics Business, Bangchak Corporation, as IESG President.

Thamarat stated that “the 12th Thailand Oil and Chemical Spill Response Exercise (TOC-EX12) is a collaborative effort involving multiple agencies, each with roles in the removal of oil slicks from planning to execution, and information support. This comprehensive collaboration ensures that the response to oil spill is conducted safely, quickly, and with minimal impact on the communities and the environment. This Thailand Response Exercise took place in the Chao Phraya River basin for the first time. Bangchak has provided support by providing training facilities and Bangchak’s oil spill response boat, named Sritararak 8, stationed at the Bangchak pier along the Chao Phraya River, which has conducted environmental operations and built confidence in the communities of the Chao Phraya River basin over the last three years.”

“The exercise was a collaborative effort among relevant agencies aimed at enhancing readiness and capacity for oil and chemical spill response and effectively controlling the spread of pollution to maintain a balanced and sustainable marine ecosystem.” Thamarat concluded.
