Bangchak and the Department of Health Jointly Launch “No Refry” Campaign as an Extension of “Fry to Fly” for SAF Production; Contributing to Good Health, and a Sustainable World

Thamarat Paryoonsuk, Senior Executive Vice President, Refinery and Oil Trading Business Group, Bangchak Corporation Public Company Limited and President of BSGF Company Limited, along with Dr. Achara Niti-apinyasakul, Director-General of the Department of Health, jointly signed the Memorandum of Understanding for the “No Refry” campaign. This campaign aims to establish standards for businesses in the use of high-quality and safe cooking oil, with a focus on consumer health and environmental considerations. Also present were, Dr. Attaphon Kaewsamrit, Deputy Director-General, Department of Health; Suthida U-tapan, Director Bureau of Food and Water Sanitation, Department of Health; Gloyta Nathalang, Acting Senior Executive Vice President, Sustainability Management and Corporate Communications; and Nipon Lerttassanee, Executive Vice President, Project Management, Engineering and Logistics Business, Refinery and Oil Trading Business Group, Bangchak Corporation who served as witnesses. Additionally, executives from partnering businesses were present, namely, Maneesuda Sila-On,Chief Sustainability Officer, S&P Syndicate Public Company Limited; Nattaporn Rungkachonklin, Chief Operating Officer, Nara Thai Cuisine Company Limited; Tanapan Namviriyachote, Head of Business Unit, CPF Restaurant and Food Chain Company Limited, Montra Sutinaraphan, Marketing Manager, Hong Bao Group & Water Library Group, Phakkanun Linjongsubongkot, Managing Director, Thanachok Oil Light Company Limited, honored the event at Bangchak Corporation Head Office at M Tower.

The “No Refry” campaign advocates for food-related businesses to abstain from refrying used cooking oil. The campaign provides safe food consumption alternatives whereby the public can choose businesses that have received “No Refry” certification. To qualify, businesses must refrain from refrying used cooking oil and sell the used cooking oil to BSGF Company Limited, a Bangchak Group subsidiary, to produce sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). This initiative fosters a network of safe food businesses and fosters greater confidence among consumers concerning their food's quality and nutritional value.

The event featured a panel discussion titled “No Refry, Make SAF.” The panelists included Thamarat Paryoonsuk, Senior Executive Vice President, Refinery and Oil Trading Business Group, Bangchak Corporation; Dr. Achara Niti-apinyasakul, Director-General of the Department of Health; along with Phasut Banyaem “Khun Chai Crispy Pork,” and environmental and food content creator, Pimlada Chaipreechawit “@PearlsHungry,” and moderateed by Gloyta Nathalang, Acting Senior Executive Vice President, Sustainability Management and Corporate Communications. The panel provided information on the progress of Thailand’s first SAF production facility located within Bangchak Phra Khanong Refinery. They also introduced the “No Refry” campaign, which emphasizes prioritizing “Safe Fried Food,” and a demonstration on testing used cooking oil.

During the event, partnering food brands, namely S&P, Madame Mae (a NARA Thai restaurant chain), Five Star Chicken, Hong Bao, as well as Decha Fried Chicken and Rama V Fried Banana, representing renowned restaurant chains with branches in multiple Bangchak service stations, presented various types of food to showcase various delicious food offerings to guests. They areexamples of restaurants that advocate for not using reused frying oil, contributing to enhancing the quality of life and safety for consumers by preparing food using safe cooking oil. Moreover, it fosters participation from all sectors in the Bio-Circular-Green (BCG) Economy, creating a low-carbon society, contributing to global warming mitigation, and creating a sustainable world.
