Bangchak Joins Business Sector Representatives to Meet UN Deputy Secretary-General

Gloyta Nathalang, Executive Vice President, Corporate Branding, and Communication, Bangchak Corporation Public Company Limited, as a Global Compact Network Thailand – GCNT board member, met Amina J. Mohammed, Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations on the occasion of her visit to Thailand for the 9th Asia-Pacific Forum on Sustainable Development.

Amina expressed that she was impressed by the progress made by the Thai business sector in addressing the UN Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs) with GCNT members jointly setting targets via GCNT in achieving Net Zero GHG Emissions by 2050.

Gloyta addressed the congregation that Bangchak Group has adjusted its business for sustainability, from an oil refinery established almost 40 years ago, today it covers 5 energy businesses, from upstream to downstream, as well as green businesses, including clean energy generation, bio-based business which is expanding into SynBio technology that will change the world, and innovative businesses reflecting global megatrends.

Moreover, Bangchak emphasizes the importance of business operations that addresses the UNSDGs, especially pertaining to Climate Action, and set the target of Carbon Neutrality by 2030 and Net Zero GHG Emissions by 2050. Last year, along with 11 partner organizations, it established the Carbon Markets Club to promote Carbon Credit Trading, which is a critical step for the energy transition from fossil fuels to clean energy.

In addition to aligning its businesses to achieving the aforementioned goals, it has actively engaged its employees and stakeholders because “All hands on deck”.

Bangchak emphasizes the inclusivity of all parties in achieving the UNSDGs, and was recently name first runner-up UN Women 2021 Thailand’s Women’s Empowerment Principles Awards (WEPs) for Gender Inclusive Workplace
