‘Waste Reduction at The Source with Bangchak’

Turns over 100 Tons of Orphan Waste into Energy Living sustainably in our daily lives. Simply sort out the trash and ensure proper disposal

In late 2021, Bangchak has initiated a campaign to encourage Thai people to participate in the "Reduce Waste at the Source with Bangchak" by sorting orphan waste and delivering for appropriate management through the mobile waste collection project by N15 Technology at four Bangchak service stations in Bangkok and its metropolitan area (on Saturdays from 09:00 AM to 12:00 PM, rotating according to the schedule). Since then, a cumulative amount of more than 100 tons of waste dropped off at the Bangchak stations by over 8,000 vehicles has been collected and processed. This has helped reduce the amount of waste being improperly disposed of in landfills, which contributes to the generation of methane gas, resulting in combatting global warming and reducing the reliance on coal for electricity generation.

Bangchak has allocated space within Bangchak service stations as drop-off points for orphan waste collection by N15 Technology, a specialist in the collection and processing of unused household and industrial materials, which are cut and burned as renewable refuse-derived fuel to replace fossil fuels for cement kilns. Although it still involves incineration, high-temperature incineration results in lower emissions of pollutants compared to conventional incineration methods. Moreover, it is carried out under pollution control and exhaust gas treatment standards set by the Department of Industrial Works before releasing into the atmosphere.

Orphan Waste Collection On the Rise

In 2022, more than 78 tons of orphan waste were collected through Bangchak service stations, and within only the first three months of 2023, over 40 tons have already been collected. This reflects the campaign’s positive public reception and interest in reducing waste at the source. The increase can be attributed to households and businesses adopting Circular Economy waste management practices, participating in efforts to promote a low-carbon society, and reduce the burden on the environment.

Expanding the Network and Providing Convenience for Environmental Enthusiasts

Last year, in addition to orphan waste drop-off and collection points at Bangchak service stations, Bangchak also promoted orphan waste sorting at the company’s head office and refinery as well as partnering with Sansiri to set up an orphan waste collection point at Habito Mall, inviting residents, partners, communities, and individuals to sort waste and participate in the campaign. In 2023, Bangchak has further expanded the cooperation network by establishing almost 10 collection points in community schools around Bangchak Refinery, connecting the community, school officers, and students.

Everyone can participate in caring for the environment by reducing waste at the source or practicing proper waste management. Simply sort out orphan waste, rinse, then leave it to dry, and pack it tightly in a bag. The orphan waste can then be dropped off at designated Bangchak service stations on the scheduled day. This can be easily done without having to leave your vehicle, as there are volunteers available to help transfer the waste into the truck.
